Akasel has a complete program of high-quality consumables for metallographic sample preparation.

Cutting is usually the first step in sample preparation. The Akasel cut-off wheels are designed specifically for metallographic cutting to produce plane samples with a minimum of thermal damage or deformation. This will make the following preparation steps shorter, reducing preparation time and increasing throughput.

Mounting provides protection/support of the sample surface, makes it easier to handle the sample, allows for several small samples in one mount and gives uniform sizes for clamping in a sample holder. At Akasel, we have both high quality cold- and hot mounting resins to provide the optimum solution for your mounting requirements.

Grinding consists of plane grinding to provide high initial removal and fine grinding that prepares the sample for polishing. Our Aka-Piatto diamond grinding discs with the unique wear compensating pattern provide a consistent high removal rate and a very long lifetime. With perfectly plane samples the following step on one of our rigid fine-grinding discs Aka-Allegran or Aka-Largan can be kept very short, reducing the total grinding time to a few minutes.

Polishing consists of one or more steps in increasingly finer grain sizes to gradually remove the deformation from the previous steps. Our wide range of polishing cloths together with probably the largest range of diamond products available on the market will help you to achieve optimum results in a very short time.

Accessories can optimise your sample preparation. Different accessories are available for mounting. Moulds, mould release products and clips can be important for the final mounting result. Aka-Clean is the optimum choice for cleaning samples and to avoid contamination between preparation steps. For opening and dressing of our diamond grinding discs, a dressing stick has to be used.
