Our diamond grinding discs Aka-Piatto and Aka-Piatto+ are the optimal choice for plane and fine grinding including ultrafine grinding of all types of materials. Unlike other diamond grinding discs on the market, they have a unique, wear compensating surface design that provides a very long lifetime and continuously high material removal.
Furthermore, due to being on a thin, rigid steel plate, optimum planeness and edge retention are guaranteed. One Aka-Piatto can replace 200-300 pieces of regular grinding paper, making it very cost-effective. Aka-Piatto and Aka-Piatto+ are colour-coded to facilitate identification of the different diamond grinding discs.
Akasel diamond grinding discs are available in two different versions as Aka-Piatto and Aka-Piatto+. Aka-Piatto+ has the same features as Aka-Piatto, but twice the diamond concentration. This makes Aka-Piatto+ the perfect choice for the preparation of brittle materials like ceramics, cermets (e.g. CMC; Ceramic Matrix Composites) and sintered carbides. The very high diamond concentration makes the abrasion less aggressive due to a lower specific pressure and at the same time greatly increases the lifetime of Aka-Piatto+.
With Aka-Piatto and Aka-Piatto+ diamond grinding discs you obtain continuously high material removal, optimum planeness and great edge retention in your plane and fine grinding steps.

Akasel diamond grinding discs can be used for both plane grinding and fine grinding. For plane grinding we recommend Aka-Piatto/Aka-Piatto+ #80, Aka-Piatto/Aka-Piatto+ #120 and Aka-Piatto/Aka-Piatto+ #220. For fine grinding we recommend Aka-Piatto/Aka-Piatto+ #600, Aka-Piatto/Aka-Piatto+ #1200, Aka-Piatto #2400 and Aka-Piatto #4000.
As mentioned above, Akasel diamond grinding discs are available in two different versions as Aka-Piatto and Aka-Piatto+. Aka-Piatto can be used for plane and fine grinding of most materials and metals with a hardness of 150 HV or harder.
Aka-Piatto+ with identical features to Aka-Piatto, but twice the diamond concentration, is the optimal choice for plane and fine grinding of brittle materials like ceramics, cermets (e.g. CMC; Ceramic Matrix Composites) and sintered carbides. The very high diamond concentration makes the abrasion less aggressive due to a lower specific pressure which is ideal for the preparation of this type of materials.
Whenever possible, we recommend that you use a diamond grinding disc for your grinding step(s), since it provides the best removal rate, planeness and edge retention compared to regular grinding paper. It is also the most economic choice due to the long lifetime of an Aka-Piatto/Aka-Piatto+ diamond grinding disc. For the preparation of soft materials you should use grinding paper for your plane and fine grinding steps to obtain the best preparation result.

The diamond grinding discs Aka-Piatto and Aka-Piatto+ are pre-dressed and ready to use. They have to be dressed with a dressing stick once in a while to ensure a continuously high removal rate. Dressing has to be more frequent with softer, more ductile materials.
Some areas of the preparation disc wear faster than others due to more frequent contact with the samples. This is mostly the centre of the disc and the periphery. In these areas we have increased the density of the abrasive layer to achieve an even wear and thus a much longer lifetime than competitive discs.
Diamond grinding discs, like our Aka-Piatto, are much harder than grinding paper. This results in much more plane samples which again shortens the following preparation steps. And as diamond is used as abrasive, they outperform SiC by far. A single Aka-Piatto can replace at least 200 pieces of grinding paper, making it a much more economic and sustainable alternative.
