Abrasive Non-Ferrous Metal Cutting
Soft and ductile non-ferrous metals like aluminium, copper and their alloys are easily deformed during cutting. To avoid this, a specific cut-off wheel optimised for these materials is required. Our Aka-Cut NF10 has been developed to fulfil the requirements for cutting of non-ferrous metals. With the Aka-Cut NF10 cutting wheel, you obtain a plane sample surface with minimal mechanical deformation and thermal damage. This cutting wheel is optimised for metals with a hardness of approximately 10 HRC or in the range of 50-250 HV. Different diameters are available for all our abrasive cut-off wheels.

Why is SiC used as an abrasive for cutting of non-ferrous metals?
Being rather brittle, SiC is breaking down during cutting while creating new, sharp edges that are necessary for removing soft and ductile material.
Is it also necessary to use an additive with corrosion protection when cutting non-ferrous metals that do not corrode?
The corrosion protection is not only to protect the material to be cut but also very important to protect the cut-off machine from being attacked and to keep it in good shape for a long time.
What are the characteristics of non-ferrous metals?
In general, non-ferrous metals are relatively soft and more or less ductile compared to ferrous metals/steels. They deform more easily and therefore require sharp abrasives to avoid too much damage. SiC is the best choice of abrasive and is therefore the standard abrasive in cut-off wheels for non-ferrous metals.
